Un día a la vez

Querida Comunidad,

The Columbia Hispanic Pre-Law Society (HPLS) was founded to address a simple question: what if there was a space for us — Latines at Columbia — who plan to pursue careers in law? The answer to this question came in a tiny Hartley lounge, just two of us strategizing where to start, where we should hang flyers up for our very first General Body Meeting, and what our motto should be. Then we made it happen.

We introduced ourselves to an overflowing Pupin classroom in the fall of 2024. What began with two people transformed into  an E-Board of 10 passionate, brilliant students – all with diverse interests in law and with rich, interdisciplinary approaches to legal scholarship.

Together, we co-founded HPLS with a vision to create a home where representation isn’t a question, it’s a given. A space where our voices matter, where our goals feel possible, and where we can uplift each other. Importantly, a space where the words “sí, se puede” remind us that we are not alone.

It’s been a labor of love, and we’re excited for what’s next.

As we move forward, we are united by our values of excellence, community, and empathy. HPLS is so much more than a student organization. It’s a movement — a chance to dare to dream bigger, to populate courtrooms, and to set the stage for generations to come.

The road ahead is bright, and we are navigating it un día a la vez

Un abrazo,

Victoria y Daniela
